Novarra’s Portal Platform Launched by U.S. Cellular®
High Speed Portal on Ten Phones
CHICAGO, IL - September 27, 2005 - Novarra announced that U.S. Cellular,
the nation’s sixth largest wireless company, has selected and launched Novarra’s nWebTM portal platform for Qualcomm’s BREW® solution. With industry leading speed, the portal home page loads in an average of seven seconds over a CDMA 1xRTT network, providing customers of U.S. Cellular data services a full range of popular mobile-friendly content including email, sports, news, weather, search engines, entertainment and more. Using Novarra, U.S. Cellular offers customers maximum choice and flexibility with a high-speed, mobile-friendly, content-rich portal in addition to the existing nWeb full Internet access offering. Novarra will be demonstrating Web+MobilityTM solutions for high-tier and mass-market BREW handsets at Booth #439 at the CTIA IT & Entertainment 2005 Conference in San Francisco.
“The Novarra platform is the smart choice to build upon for our easyedge data service,” according to John Cregier, Senior Director of Product Development and Management for U.S. Cellular. “Novarra understood our requirements for providing a highly satisfying experience through a portal and addressed them with a flexible and customizable solution.”
Using open standards, Novarra delivers rich content to new and deployed WAP 2.0 handsets without any required upfront integration for deployed 2G/3G operator infrastructure. nWeb Portal simplifies the creation, management and monetization of Web/WAP content and mobile search, significantly reducing time to market. Operators are easily able to create locally-relevant portals and customize content for demographic and geographic segments in multiple languages. nWeb provides offline content updating, advanced caching and mobile zoom for a seamless user experience. Through integration with BREW and other operator infrastructure, Web/WAP portals can be enriched with BREW Contextual Shopping, location and content push.
“Novarra showcases the openness of the BREW system and the benefits it brings developers,” according to Tom Grieco, Senior Director of BREW Developer Relations for Qualcomm Internet Services. “We are pleased to see additional operator interest in Novarra solutions. With Novarra, operators are able to offer a rich high speed portal plus the full power of the Internet with mobile search across a range of mass-market and high-tier handsets.”
“Portal speed, content flexibility and content fragmentation across handsets are key areas of focus for operators,” according to Bruce Simpson, Chief Operating Officer for Novarra. “A lower total cost of ownership and simplified deployment, along with the flexibility of BREW, enables our customers to quickly enhance their portals and generate data results.”
