Legacy mobile content can include WAP sites, PDA sites, .mobi sites or downloads like
wallpapers,
ringtones and games. However, initiatives like dotMobi and the
W3C Mobile Web Best Practices
Working Group are encouraging the development
of new, richer sites designed for the advanced
capabilities of today’s handsets.
The most advanced of these sites are beginning to use JavaScript and
Ajax.
Pages are recognized as mobile content if ANY one of the following conditions are met:
1. The page includes an XHTML-mobile or XHTML-basic DTD:

· <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//WAPFORUM//DTD XHTML Mobile 1.0//EN"
"http://www.wapforum.org/DTD/xhtml-mobile10.dtd">
· <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML Basic 1.1//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml-basic/xhtml-basic11.dtd">
· <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML Basic 1.0//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml-basic/xhtml-basic10.dtd">
2. The response reports one of the following content (MIME) types:
· application/vnd.wap.xhtml+xml
· text/vnd.wap.wml
3. The response contains the following tag:
· <link rel=”alternate” media=”handheld” href=”ww.mobileversion.com"/>
The Mobile Web Best Practices Working Group within the W3C has formed a Content
Transformation Task Force to create guidelines that will help CTSs, mobile browsers,
and
content providers work together in a consistent manner.
Novarra is a member of the W3C and the Mobile Web Best Practices Working Group and
is
participating in the Content Transformation Task Force.
